Winners from the Final Edition of the Cybersecurity Challenge Singapore Announced

Winners of the Face-to-Face (F2F) segment of the final Cybersecurity Challenge Singapore, held during the Singapore International Cyber Week 2019, were announced today. Co-organised by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and BAE Systems, the competition saw the participation of players from different backgrounds, including students, full-time National servicemen. A total of more than $30,000 worth of career-enhancing prizes was distributed to the top team and the top six individual winners.
These participants were shortlisted from the top scorers of CyPhinx, an online game developed by Cyber Security Challenge UK. Divided into five teams during the F2F competition, the participants were tasked to respond to a hacked website, triage the event by identifying command and control of exfiltrated data, conduct forensic analysis of seized media, and eventually shut down attackers’ access.
Throughout the full day competition which was themed “Digital Forensics and Incident Response”, participants displayed their knowledge in cybersecurity domains such as forensic analysis and reverse engineering. Assessors from CSA, BAE Systems, (ISC)2 and ThinkSECURE were also present to evaluate the participants. As part of the evaluation, participants had to present their findings to an expert panel comprising Mr Simon Eng, Senior Assistant Director (Ecosystem Development), CSA; Dr Meng-Chow Kang, Head (Security Assurance, Asia Pacific, China, and Japan Region), Amazon Web Services and Member of (ISC)2 Advisory Council – Asia Pacific; Mr Christopher Low, Director, ThinkSECURE® Pte Ltd; and Mr Victor Yeo, General Manager, BAE Systems.
